BRITO 2007"Miguel Antonio Brito and Maria Ygnacia Varela came to Embudo, Rio Arriba, New Mexico before the birth of their first son in 1807. I cannot find MAB in any of the Colonial Mexico records, tho I know who he was NOT. I have not researched MYV, and the records at Ancestry.com do not match what I know about this couple. Please email me if you have anything on this family or if you would like a free email copy of my book, BRITO BEGINNINGS, which has 91 Brito family trees from Colonial NM plus many yet-to-be-connected families. HOWARD 2004
I am seeking information regarding Jim Wood Howard and his wife Bertha who according to their oldest daughter homesteaded in what she called "the Bosque" somewhere in NM in the middle 1930's. I do know that Bertha was delivered of a boy child in the city of Espanola during their stay in NM. It appears that the land on which they settled (homestead? no land patent recorded in either name) was not suitable for farming and the US government bought them out and they moved to Texas ca. 1936. Any information about the farm or any relatives they may have had in the area would be appreciated.
I have some new information. There were at least two Howard families alleged to have homesteaded in the Rio Arriba County with Ojo Caliente being the home of record for Bertha Howard when she gave birth to a son in Espanola in 1933. I would appreciate any information about the Marion J. Howard family and/or the Jim Wood Howard Family. The county seems quite positively to be Rio Arriba but the land records contain no information-- at least the ones to which I have access. Please post this inquiry in whatever site would be the most likely to be productive. Thank you for your attention. Earl Russell email

My Great Great Grandfather, Michael Patrick O'Connor, and his wife Anna lived in Rio Arriba County in the mid 1880's. Michael and Anna had at least 4 children, Joe, Martin, Roderick and Thomas Lennis O'Connor. Thomas was my Great Grandfather. Michael was murdered in a dispute over a coal mine at Amargo on August 24, 1886. He was murdered in a gun fight my a man named Daniel Crowley. The Denver Times ran two articles about the, one on August 26, and the second on August 30, 1886. After Michael's murder, the family eventually moved to Raton where Anna remarried in 1891. If anyone would like more information or has information to add to this, please contact me.
